Strong Paragraphs

Some people believe in writing from an outline. Getting all the parts down in bullet points and then building your story from there.

I find it more natural to just sit down and write. When I wrote my book, I didn’t even write the chapters in order. The great thing about writing is that there are no rules. Whatever works for you, works for you.

Your next task is write the first paragraph of your story. You already have a first sentence, so that’s a good place to start!

Let’s get going!

Following is a paragraph from my book:

The road to victory is a brilliant royal purple. It is gloriously difficult, almost always uphill, and requires you to take an active role. The victim’s path is a desert journey, sandy and dry, with nothing of substance to quench your thirst. Filled with excuses and barriers, the way of the victim never lets you rise above anything, insisting you remain passive. It deceives us because it appears to be the easy way out. But, during my twenty-seven months in the correctional system, I learned the best things come from difficulty and the good things that come from the easy way out don’t last.

Write the first paragraph of your story.

Don’t worry that it’s not perfect, you’ll edit it later. Just get it down so you have a starting point.
